Retrospective & Commemorative Poster Exhibitions
Exhibition Concept
As part of the celebrations for the 10th anniversary of Graphic Stories, a major retrospective and commemorative poster exhibitions were presented to the public, featuring the work of designers from Cyprus and around the world. The exhibitions opened on March 9th in the heart of Nicosia and offered visitors a rich visual and emotional journey through a decade of creative communication and social design.
The retrospective section showcased selected posters from previous thematic exhibitions organized by Graphic Stories since 2015. Each edition focused on a timely and socially relevant theme, including “Nicosia, the city of utopia,” “Writing, the origins of civilization,” “Graphic Design: Challenging the perception,” “Cultural heritage, one world – one future,” “Break down the walls,” “Tolerance,” and “The power of youth.” These works reflected the role of graphic design as a tool for critical thinking, dialogue, and social change.
Complementing the retrospective one, the commemorative exhibition titled “Destinat10n” presented new, specially created works exploring the theme of travel—as a literal, emotional, and symbolic journey. Designers interpreted the idea of “destination” through visual narratives that addressed personal, cultural, and societal transitions.
Curated as an interactive installation, the exhibition featured a digital timeline activated by QR codes, allowing visitors to revisit the full history of Graphic Stories. From 2015 to 2024, attendees could explore past activities, highlights, and testimonials from contributors who shaped the initiative over the years. The opening night was enriched by parallel performances: a reggae-infused DJ set by Haji Mike, and a contemporary dance performance by a dance group from the London School of Ballet, creating a multi-sensory experience of visual art, movement, and sound.
Featuring over 90 international designers from Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and the Americas, the exhibitions celebrated creativity as a global language. Graphic Stories once again affirmed its mission: to promote visual communication as a means of cultural dialogue and to remind us that, as long as there is inspiration, the possibilities are limitless.
